DMS/CASQUE

Strong Authentication

Since 1994, Basil Philipsz has been steadily developing the capabilities of his CASQUE approach to access security in IT systems. CASQUE is the only Strong Authentication product approved by CESG(GCHQ) for applications in British Government IT systems, and is now clearly seen to offer a high level access control that cannot be unknowingly compromised. West & Company has assisted DMS in developing a successful strategy to exploit Dr. Philipsz' fully-Patented technology, involving strategic Partners integrating CASQUE with large-scale IT infrastructure projects. Partners now include Accenture, Mmo2, Globalcrossing, as well as product-level integrations with Checkpoint, Safenet, Neoterus, and others. The CASQUE product is a "tool-kit" of hardware and software components able to be tailored in different ways for particular integrations.

Floorplan Systems Group

Intelligent Building Systems

Established during 1986 at the offices in Great Eccleston, Lancashire which previously accommodated West & Company, Floorplan Group is a specialised manufacturer of both structural and electrical systems for buildings. From the initial focus on modular flooring, Group products now include a range of factory-wired "plug and play" cable modules for lighting and data systems. West & Company helped the business to get started, and was then able to assist with various tasks in the ensuing developments. The overall market strategy involves a package of finishing components for the fit-out stage of building construction, from a single source instead of the conventional group of separate sub-contract suppliers. Group turnover in 2006 exceeded £7 million, with continuing growth forecast.

Ideas North West Limited

Inventors helping Inventors

For more than 10 years, Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council has been taking direct action to create new jobs - replacing more than 1000 jobs lost in the Borough every year due to industrial change. As a part of this effort, Ideas North West was established in 2003 as a voluntary group of local inventors: the idea is for inventors to help each other with the problems and difficulties all inventors face in bringing a new concepts to market. This has become a very successful initiative, now marked by the annual Inventors Expo at Blackburn each February. Ideas North West Limited has now been formed by the members, as a not-for-profit Company undertaking funded projects to accelerate viable inventions through to commercial exploitation. Basil Philipsz and Dick West are both Committee members of Ideas North West, helping to create new technology-based businesses throughout the North West.
